The funeral service for Mr. R.C. Bryant, 89, will at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, September 2, 2015, at K.L. Brown Memory Chapel in Golden Springs with the Rev. Bob Ford and Dr. Garry Ragsdale officiating. Burial will follow at Edgemont Cemetery. The family will receive friends this evening from 5-7 at the funeral home. Mr. Bryant passed away on Sunday, August 30, 2015, surrounded by his family. R.C. died with the same quiet dignity just as he lived his life. R.C. was a U.S. Army veteran and served his country with honor in World War II and Korea. He worked at Bowman Transportation until retirement and had worked since 1999 as a funeral assistant and host at K.L. Brown Memory Chapel. He served on the Calhoun County Baptist Association, volunteered at RMC, and was a faithful member of Blue Mountain Baptist Church where he was the director of Sunday school. He was a great patriarch and a role model to his whole family. He lived his life with great compassion, humility and character. He will be long missed and well remembered. Mr. Bryant is preceded in death by his wife, Geraldine W. Bryant, who passed away on August 6, 2015. He is also preceded in death by two of his brothers, Carl and Cecil, and his sister, Cleo Ginn. Mr. Bryant is survived by his only daughter, Teresa Smith and her husband, his beloved son-in- law, Clay Smith; his only grandson, Matthew Lumpkin (Emily); his only granddaughter, Katie Lynch (Michael); three great-grandchildren, Emma Grace Lumpkin, Matty Lumpkin and Chandler Cook; daughters of the heart, Pam Robertson (Kenny) and Teri Suter (Philip); two brothers, Lenton Bryant (Joan) and Bobby Bryant; his good friend and very special caregiver, Carolyn Whitfield; three sisters-in-law, Josephine Horton, Betty Davidson and Betty Jo West, and several nieces and nephews. Pallbearers will be Matthew Lumpkin, William Lumpkin, Eddy Beard, Philip Suter, Freddie Taylor, Scott Bundrum, Kenny Robertson and Roscoe Griffith. Honorary pallbearers will be the volunteers with the NE Alabama Regional Medical Center Auxiliary. Online condolences may be made to the family at www.klbrownmemorychapel.com. K.L.
