Funeral service for Ret. CSM James M. Middleton Jr., 74, will be Wednesday at 1 p.m. at Anniston Memorial Funeral Home with Father Macey officiating. Burial with full military honors will follow at Anniston Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Survivors include his wife of 48 years, Margarete Prange Middleton; sons, Carsten Joachim Middleton (Sarah Hamlett) of Eugene, Ore., and Horst-Ulrich Middleton (Deborah), of Oxford; grandchildren, Alexis T. Gurley, of Virginia, Jeremiah D. Middleton, of Lincoln, and Ashley Crawford, of Oxford; mother, Rose White; sister-in-law, Brigitte Best and family and brother-in-law, Johannes Prange. He was preceded in death by his sister, Edna Mae Stevens and father, James M. Middleton Sr. Mr. Middleton was a retired CSM of the U.S. Army after 30 years of service which included being stationed in Germany and Korea and was a veteran of the Vietnam War. After retirement he was employed by the Calhoun County Sheriff's Dept. for 10 years and was a lifetime member of the VFW. He married his fraeulein in Berlin, Germany on Feb. 18, 1966.
