A Celebration of Life Service for Retired Master Sergeant, Daniel J. Long, 69, of Jacksonville, will be held Wednesday, November 28, 2018 at 6:00 p.m. at the K.L. Brown Memory Chapel in Golden Springs with Pastor John Reynolds officiating. His family will receive friends Wednesday from 3:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Burial with full military honors will be held Thursday, November 29, 2018 at 10:15 a.m. at The Alabama National Cemetery at Montevallo. Retired MSGT Long passed away Friday, November 23, 2018 at the University of AL Hospital in Birmingham, AL. He is preceded in death by parents, Walter and Barbara Long; sisters, Diana Whiddon and Sandy Martin; and nephew, John Martin III. Retired MSGT Long was a native of Michigan and a long-time resident of Jacksonville. He was a member of the Trinity Lutheran Church of Gadsden, AL and served as the president of his church congregation. He retired from the Calhoun County EMA with more than 20 years of service and served as director. He proudly served his country with the USMC for 22 years. He was the current Commander of The East Central AL Young Marines. Retired MSGT Long is survived by his wife of 49 years, Lucy "Mindy" Long; children, Brenda Sandoval and Kevin Daniel Long and his wife Mandi; grandchildren, Drew Pierce, Kodi Dean, YM/SSGT Daniel Ray Sandoval, and Kohl Sandoval; brothers, Robert Long and his wife Barbara, Douglas Long and his wife Minnie, and Clint Long and his wife Marie; along with several nieces and nephews and a host of friends. Honorary pallbearers will be the East Central AL Young Marines and the Marine Corps League.
