Funeral service for the Rev. Ralph Abernathy, 73, will be Friday, February 26, 2016, 2 p.m. at New Bethel Baptist Church. Bro. Keith Thomas, Dr. Raymond Sorrells, Bro. Mike Ragland and Bro. Buck Greenwood they will be officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends on Thursday from 6 until 8 p.m. at New Bethel Baptist Church. The Rev. Abernathy passed away on Monday at his residence. Survivors include his son, Shane Abernathy (Lea Anne); daughter, Paige Caldwell; sisters, Margaret Wooten and Maxine Cornwell; brothers, Joseph Abernathy and Claude Abernathy; grandchildren, Bradley Caldwell, Holden Abernathy, Sarah Caldwell and Caroline Caldwell; several nieces and nephews. Pallbearers will be Bradley Caldwell, Joel Carter, Roger Ray, Nik Couch, Christopher Abernathy and Anthony Bittle. Rev. Abernathy was a resident of Coldwater and was former pastor of New Bethel Baptist Church for 17 years. He had served as a pastor for over 46 years. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy.
