Funeral service for Rhetta Hendon Russell, 81, will be at 4 p.m., Sunday, November 15, 2015, at Crestwood Chapel. ms. Russell passed away Thursday, November 12, 2015. The Rev. Chris Spurlin will officiate. Burial will be at Crestwood Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 2 p.m until time of service. Crestwood Funeral Home is in charge. Ms. Russell graduated Gadsden High School in 1950. She was a graduate of Jacksonville State University, and taught at Saks, Walter Wellborn, and retired at Oxford High School in 1991. Ms. Russell loved the mountains of Tennessee, and upon retirement she moved to Knoxville, Tenn. and lived there for 16 years before returning to Oxford. She was a loving mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She was preceded in death by her parents, Samuel Russell and Katie Lou Russell Malcom; brother, Samuel Gerald Russell. She is survived by her daughters, Suzonne D. (Zon) Amerson, of Hamilton, Ga., and K. Roxanne Hendon Ponds (Matt), of Atlanta, Ga.; son, Zachary Shelley (Joyce), of Southside; grandchildren, Patrick Brett Everett, Johsua Amerson, Ethan Amerson, Kateleigh Rhea Ponds, Sullivan Casey Wilson Ponds, Tyler Shelley (Maggie Hollingsworth) and Russell Shelley (Ashley); six great-grandchildren; two nephews and numerous cousins.
