Memorial service for Richard Harold Choron, 85, will be today, 2 p.m. at McCauley's Chapel, 824 Tabor Road, Gadsden. The family will accept friends from 1-2 p.m. today at the church, prior to the service. Mr. Choron passed away Saturday, April 12, 2014. Collier-Butler Funeral and Cremation Services is announcing. Mr. Choron was a retired veteran of the U.S. Air Force, serving for 20 years in places such as Germany, Turkey, Spain and Hawaii. He was an alumnus of Etowah High School (Class of 1946), and the University of Maryland. He had also been a student at Gadsden State Community College, the University of Alabama, Syracuse University and Jacksonville State University. He was a supporter of Cardinals Athletics at GSCC. He was a multilingual genealogist and historian and an adherent of the Unitarian-Universalist faith. He was a participant in Masters Swimming and taught chess as a volunteer. He also was a semi-pro baseball and football player. He was preceded in death by his parents, Richard S. Choron and Geneva Blackwell Choron; brothers, Donald Gerald Choron and Forrest Choron; sisters, Emmalene McCallum and Mary Chaney; great-granddaughter, Evalyn Reid Choron. He is survived by his children, Richard David Choron, Anthony Daniel Choron, ChaRissa Stephens, Jeffrey Choron and Geneva Langley; siblings, Tom Choron, Janice Deerman, David Choron, Danny R. Choron and Douglas A. Choron; and grandchildren, Steven Choron, Trent Choron, Anna Boney, Sierra Langley, Mason Langley, Jaca Gilmore, Rebecca Jones and Laura Winston and 8 great-grandchildren.
