Richard Huey Smith, 73, gained his angel wings on September 22, 2017. He was born January 19, 1944 to the late Leo and Dolly Smith. He was the youngest of three boys. He graduated from Saks High School in 1961. Richard married Dorothy Hudgins Hollis in 1970, and together they raised their two daughters. His talents were many, he was a successful machinist until he retired. Richard was the epitome of what a church member and follower of Christ should be. He was a true example of, if a Bible is falling apart, the person holding it was not. He was a devoted husband, father, brother, grandfather, and friend. His friendliness and kindness to all people and his devotion and love towards the Lord and his earthly family and friends are a tribute to the beauty of his heart and soul. He loved his family more than anything. Richard was preceded in death by his parents, and two brothers, James Leo and Donald Wayne. He leaves behind his sweetheart, Dot, and their two daughters, Donna and Meredith. He also leaves two sons-in-law, Ray and Michael. He is also survived by five grandchildren, Caitlyn, Lauryn, Ben, Jager, and Jaxon, and many nieces, nephews and cousins. Richard's wonderful life will be celebrated at Dryden Funeral Home on Monday, September 25, 2017 from 5-7 p.m. Funeral service will be held Tuesday, September 26, 2017 at 11 a.m. at Heflin First United Methodist Church with officiating by Dr. Glenn Conner and Dr. Michael Burgess. Interment will be at Chulafinnee Methodist Church Cemetery following the church service. Pallbearers will be Eddie Grubs, Kerry Poland, Jager Ferguson, John-Wesley Kent, Donald Dewberry, Greg Thompson, Gene James, Gene Daugherty and Lynwood Williamson. Honorary Pallbearers will be Tommy Gaines, Horace Perry, Glea Sarrell, Hugh Walker, Jaxon Ferguson, Jim Morris and members of the Men's Breakfast Group.
