Rickey J. Green, 73, passed away on April 14, 2016, at his home. He was born and raised in Oxford and a graduate of Oxford High School, class of 1961. After graduation, Rick pursued a BS Degree from Jacksonville State University and a JD Degree from The Birmingham School of Law. He served in the U.S. Army from 1967 through 1987, five years of which were on active duty serving in Vietnam and Germany. He retired as a Reserve Major in the Military Intelligence Branch. He has worked with NASA, Defense Contracts Administration Service and USAID. He served outside the United States as a Civilian for approximately eight years, mostly in the Middle East. He also worked for the University of Alabama at Birmingham for one year before retiring. He is preceded in death by his step-father, B.W. Free Jr. He is survived by his wife, Jeannie Galbreath Green; his children, Sondra Savoy and Michael (Leslie) Green; his grandchildren, Spencer (Kristen) King, Skyler King, Alexa King and Caiden King, Joshua Cusimano, Samantha Cusimano and Karsen Green; one great-grandchild, Noah King; his mother, Juanita Free; sister-in-law, Joanna Marmon; nephew, Joseph Marmon and his beloved dog, Sweet Pea. A Celebration of Life will be held at Deerfoot Funeral Home on Friday, April 22, 2016, at 11 a.m., with visitation held at 10 a.m. Burial will follow at Alabama National Cemetery in Montevallo at 2 p.m. In lieu of flowers, a donation can be made to Wounded Warriors.
