Colonel Robert C. Arbuckle, United States Army (Retired), passed away on Tuesday at Jacksonville Health and Rehabilitation. Colonel Arbuckle was born on August 10, 1923 at Dayton, Ohio. He began his military career by joining the Ohio National Guard on May 30th, 1939. Having attained the rank of Staff Sergeant, he attended the Chemical Warfare Officer Candidate School at Edgewood Arsenal, Maryland. He was commissioned second Lieutenant, Chemical Warfare Service in November, 1942. He served in the Philippines, Germany, France and Viet Nam. He retired at Fort McClellan, AL on January 1, 1971. Survivors include his wife, Irene Cobb Arbuckle and her loving family and his son, William M. "Ken" Arbuckle. He was preceded in death by his lovely wife, Mary Elizabeth in September of 2005 and his son, John Arbuckle. Funeral services will be Friday at 11 a.m. at Anniston Memorial Funeral Home with Rev. Dale Olmstead and Pastor Jeremy Carpenter officiating. Burial with full military honors will follow in Anniston Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends one hour prior to service time. Colonel Arbuckle was a longtime member of Alexandria United Methodist Church and attended Saks Baptist Church in recent years.
