Dr. Robert D. "Bob" Doe, born July 6, 1929 in Lexington, Mass., passed away peacefully at Legacy Village Assisted Living in Jacksonville on January 15, 2017 surrounded by family. Bob was a loving husband, father, grandfather and never stopped being a teacher. Following his discharge from the Air Force in 1952 Bob attended Ohio State University in Columbus, Ohio. He began his career as a high school biology teacher in Columbus in 1957. Bob received his PhD in Physical Education and Biology from Ohio State University in 1970 and accepted a position at West Liberty State College in Triadelphia, W. Va. from which he retired in 1995. Bob and his wife, Barbara were married 59 years prior to her death in 2011. He is survived by his daughter Debra Doe, of Hilliard, Ohio; son, Steven Doe (Laura), of Jacksonville; grandchildren, Bryan Doe (Stephanie), of Madison, Eric Doe, of West Point, Ga., Michelle Doe, of Denver, Colo.; great-grandchildren, Kaylee Blackwell, Matthew and Natalie Doe. In 2014, Bob moved to Legacy Village Assisted Living in Jacksonville from Naples, Florida, to be closer to family. He considered Legacy his home and loved the staff and residents deeply. Bob was an avid woodworker and wood carver, a hobby he continued until his passing. Bob developed a special friendship with Ray Lockridge of Anniston as a result of their mutual love of wood carving. Ray visited weekly and Bob greatly enjoyed the conversations they shared. Donations can be made to Legacy Village of Jacksonville, 1116 James Hopkins Road SW, Jacksonville, AL 36265, for a memorial bench in honor of Dr. Robert D. Doe.
