Anniston - A Memorial service for Mr. Robert L. "Bob" Hoover Sr., 86, of Anniston, will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, July 24, 2013, at First Christian Church in Anniston with the Reverend Laura Hutchinson and the Reverend Lamar Hahn officiating. The visitation and a reception will follow the service in the church fellowship hall. Services and burial will be rendered at a later date in Virginia. Mr. Hoover passed away on July 21, 2013. Mr. Hoover served honorably in the United States Navy for over 20 years and retired in 1966. He then began a 20 year career with Sears and retired in 1988. Prior to moving to Anniston, he was in charge of the Kempsville Presbyterian Church Food Ministry in Virginia Beach, VA. Mr. Hoover was a member of First Christian Church in Anniston and a former member of the Anniston Bridge Club. He had served as a deacon at Rock Church in Virginia Beach and an Elder at Kempsville Presbyterian Church. He will best be remembered as a devoted husband, a loyal and trusted father and grandfather, and for the way he helped and served others. Mr. Hoover was preceded in death by his parents, Delbert Hoover and Helen Dolby, and a sister, Jean. Mr. Hoover is survived by his wife of 62 years, Doris Jean Hoover of Anniston; his sons, Robert Leon Hoover Jr. and his wife, Sherry, of Anniston, and Jeffrey Neal Hoover Sr., of Chesapeake, Va.; his grandchildren, Leeanna Valentini and her husband, Mauri, of Anniston, Israel Hoover-Medina, Elizabeth Ashley Hoover, and Jeffrey Neal Hoover Jr., and his fiancé, Katie Dawson, all of Chesapeake, Va.; a great-granddaughter, Kennedy Walls, of Chesapeake, Va.; and his stepsiblings, Louise Knox, of North Huntington, Pa., Frank Dolby, Charles Dolby, and Thomas Dolby, all of Los Angeles, California. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made to Interfaith Ministries, 1431 Gurnee Avenue, Anniston, AL 36201 ( Online condolences may be made to the family at K.L.
