Funeral service for Robert "Rob" Hollis Spivey II, 46, will be today, May 31, 2015, at 3 p.m. at Thompson Funeral Home. Officiating will be Bro. Carl Armstrong, the Rev. Tom Moye and Eric Dryden from Sigma Nu Fraternity. Burial will follow at Highland Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home today from 1-3 p.m. Rob passed away Thursday, May 28, 2015, in Calhoun County. Survivors include his daughter, Abigail Renee Spivey, of Piedmont; his mother, Janice Wolfe Spivey, of Piedmont; one sister, Rebecca Lynne Spivey, of Piedmont; fiance, Donna LePrell, of Saks and many aunts, uncles and cousins. Pallbearers will be Mike Spivey, Earnest Blaylock, Jeff Ford, Johnny Wood, Joey Spivey, Tim Whiteside, Rodney Kines and Adam Butler. Honorary Pallbearers will be Shane Spivey, Mark Warren, Wesley Bass, Randy Rankin, Joe Williams, Chris Williams, Chris Freed, Brothers of Sigma Nu Fraternity and fellow Trivia competitors. Rob was a 1987 graduate of Piedmont High School and earned Bachelor's and Master's degrees from Jacksonville State University. Rob has served as an educator for his entire professional career and taught at Springville Middle School for the majority of his career. Rob was a member of Stemley Baptist Church in Pell City, where he served as worship leader and song director. Since returning to Piedmont in 2009, he attended Piedmont First United Methodist Church and participated in many church activities. He was an avid Jacksonville State University and University of Alabama Sports Fan and regular Trivia competition competitor. He loved spending time with family and friends. Above all, Rob was a devoted father to Abby, a fact evident to anyone that spent any time with them. You rarely saw one without the other. He was preceded in death by his father, Robert Hollis Spivey and by his grandparents.
