Visitation for Mr. Robert Wayne Rollins, 67, will be from 5-8 p.m. Wednesday, March 26, 2014, at Miller Funeral Home. A short memorial service will follow at the funeral home. Mr. Rollins passed away Saturday, March 22, 2014, at his residence with his loving wife Deborah at his side. Robert was born February 11, 1947 in Ashville to R. B. and Ila Montgomery Rollins. He attended school in St. Clair County and Wellborn High School. In 1964 he enlisted in the United States Marine Corps. After graduating boot camp at Parris Island, N.C., he transferred to Camp Pendleton, Calif. He served in the Vietnam War from 1966-67, as a combat engineer. He received the Purple Heart after suffering wounds in 1967 among other medals for his courageous service. Robert was preceded in death by his parents, one son and several close relatives. He is survived by his wife, Deborah; two special step-sons, Rue W. Chatfield, 29 Palms, Calif., former USMC, and GySgt. Randall W. Chatfield, Norfolk, Va., USMC; two sons, Randy and Charles; daughter, Kimberly Cardoso, all of Calif.; nine grandchildren and three great-grandchildren; sisters, Marie (Herb), Brenda Cleary (Ray); brothers, Tom (Ethel) Rollins, of Gallatin, Tenn., Charles (Judith), of Anniston, Ken Rollins, of Oxford and several nieces and nephews and many friends such as Robert and Shannon Lopez and family. Mr. Rollins will be cremated and burial will follow in his adopted state of Arizona. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Vietnam Veterans Chapter 502 P.O. Box 2326 Anniston, AL 36202.
