A graveside Celebration of Life for Rodney Van Freeman, 52, (formerly of Piedmont) will be 2 p.m. Saturday, March 15, 2014, at Highland Cemetery. Rodney died Thursday morning. Survivors include one sister, Teresa Brown, of York, Pa.; lifelong best friend and companion Paula Naugher Johnson, of Marietta, Ga.; 2 adopted daughters, Brittany Armstrong (David), of Ft. Belvoir, Va. and Lindsey Barkley (Bruce), of Kennesaw, Ga.; 2 grandsons (Papi's babies) Camden Barkley and Gabriel Armstrong and several nieces and nephews. Rodney was preceded in death by his parents, Foster and Shelba Freeman. In lieu flowers, the family requests donations to the Elton John U.S. Aids Foundation. Attendees of the Celebration of Life should wear red in honor of the fight against HIV/AIDS to this informal event, and all are welcome to speak.
