Funeral service for Roland Norris Owings, 76, will be today, October 31, 2014, at 2 p.m. at the Chapel of Usrey Funeral Home with the Rev. Grandville Gauldin officiating. Graveside service will follow with military honors at Oak Hill Cemetery. His family will receive friends Friday from 12-2 p.m. at Usrey Funeral Home of Talladega. Mr. Owings passed away October 27, 2014 at St. Vincent's Hospital in Birmingham. He is preceded in death by his parents, Homer and Sarah Owings and brother, Lane Owings. Mr. Owings was a native Clay County and a former resident of Talladega. After his retirement, he lived in the Choccolocco Community. He was an U.S. Army Veteran, retired from Lockheed Missile and Space and a member of First Baptist Church of Oxford. Survivors include his son, Darrell Owings (Jamie); grandchildren, Megan Jaison (Jerosh), Kaitlin Owings and Westly Owings; great-grandchildren, Elijah Jaison and Kaidale Denning; several nieces and nephews. Pallbearers will be Darrell, Westly and Ronnie Owings and Jimmy Ponder, Butch Ponder and Marion Willis.
