Ruben D. "Don" Brand passed peacefully away on Friday, December 26, 2014 in Panama City, Florida surrounded by his daughters. He was born on August 2, 1932 to Lily May and James LaFayette Brand in Berry, Alabama. Don enjoyed fishing on the river, working on his boat, mechanics, gardening, the outdoors and shooting the bull with his buddies. He served in the Army for two years, the National Guard for 3 years and the Air Force for 20 years including service in Korea and Vietnam. He owned and operated Don's Refrigeration and Air Conditioning in Anniston, Alabama for more than 25 years. After retiring from his business, he and his wife, Ruth, moved to Panama City, Florida to be near their grandkids and so he could enjoy more fishing. He was married to Ruth Mae Parrish Childers for 44 years until she passed away on July 2nd of this year. He is survived by his children, Patricia Ann Brand Fousek and husband Mal Fousek, of Clifton, Texas; stepson Dennis Kern and wife Michele, of Panama City, Florida; stepchildren, Andre and wife, Leslie Childers, Mike and wife, Connie Parrish, Keith L. Childers, Teresa R. Reaves, Steven R. Childers, David M. Childers, Angela D. Childers, NeeNee Roxanne Coplin and his beloved cat Gubanya. He is predeceased by his parents, his former wife, Shirley Lee Apple Brand; stepchildren, Audie J. Childers, Karen S. Childers, Carey C. Childers and Mark A. Childers. Funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, December 31, 2014 at Kent-Forest Lawn Funeral Home. The family will receive friends one hour prior to services at the funeral home.
