Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Tuesday, May 2, 2017, at Salvation Army Chapel for Ruth Ellen Hefner Marlin, 85, who passed away on April 27, 2017. Capt. Dennis Hayes will officiate. Inurnment will follow at Fort Mitchell National Cemetery. Glencoe-Hokes Bluff Funeral Home & Cemetery is in charge of the service. Ruth was born September 8, 1931 in Bushyhead, Oklahoma. She and her family found their way to Calif., right after WWII, where she eventually joined the U.S. Army. While touring a U.S. Naval Submarine, she ran into a former classmate, Richard Marlin who became her soul mate, and married three months later on September 1, 1951. Ruth is preceded in death by her parents, James and Jennie Hefner; sisters, Virgina Gibson, Ila Foster, Edna Mae Hefner and Helen Hefner; brothers, Blaine, Doyle, James Jr. and Delbert Hefner; grandson, Joshua Medders. Ruth leaves behind her devoted husband of 65 years, Richard Marlin; the one surviving sister, Lois Marie Mundy; daughters, Kim Taylor (Jim), Jennifer Johnston (Steven "Beaver"); son, Kevin Marlin (Heidi); grandchildren, Christina Medders, Danielle, Cassie and Annie Johnston, Hagan and Austin Marlin. Ruth also leaves behind a host of great- grandchildren, nieces, nephews and friends. Family Request no flowers. Donations may be made to Salvation Army 114 N 11th St. Gadsden, AL 35901. Family will receive friends from 12-2 P.M. at Salvation Army Chapel.
