Funeral service for Ruth Emerson Preston, 87, will be Sunday, April 30, 2017, 4 p.m. in the chapel of Miller Funeral Home. Pastor Kent Mattox will be officiating. Burial will follow in the Forestlawn Gardens. The family will receive friends on Sunday from 2 PM until service time at the funeral home. Mrs. Preston passed away on Wednesday at her residence. Mrs. Preston is survived by one son, Byron David Preston and one daughter-in-law, Deborah Preston; sisters, Helen Carroll, Nellie Weyerman and Dorothy Mathis; brother, W. Eugene Mathis; grandchildren, Jennifer Lynn, Emily Kay, Justin Preston, "Payton" Kayne, Samuel "Brent" Byron Nicholas, Amelia Ruth, Lauren Rochelle, Kimberly Caroline and Deborah Melissa; 21 great-grandchildren. Pallbearers will be Nicholas Preston, Drake Preston, Caleb Mattox, Bob Sudduth, Jacob Whatley and Nick Mundy. Mrs. Preston was a native of Rockrun, where she was raised in a christian home by christian parents and lived most of her life in Calhoun County. She was a charter member of Greenbrier Road Baptist Church where she served in the choir for 27 years, the WMU Breakfast Bible Study Club, the Golden Circle Group, and the Ruth Sunday School Class. In earlier years, Mrs. Preston was active in teaching children's Sunday school classes. She previously worked with the Auxiliary of the Anniston Memorial Hospital, was the co-owner of the Anniston Roofing Company and President of Pres-Row Investment Company of Anniston. Mrs. Preston was a christian wife, mother and grandmother. She was a member of Word Alive International Outreach Church. Mrs. Preston was preceded in death by her husband, James D. Preston; sons, Danny Lynn Preston and James Anthony Preston; sisters, Era Langston and Jessie McGee; brother, Henry Mathis, and a grandson, Jeremy Dan Preston. Miller Funeral Home
