Funeral service for Sam Wheeler, 66, will be Sunday, August 20, 2017, at 2 p.m. at Anniston Memorial Funeral Home with Scott Parris officiating. Burial will follow in Anniston Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service on Sunday. Mr. Wheeler died on Tuesday, August 15, 2017, at UAB Hospital. Survivors include his children, Jason (Lisa) Wheeler, of Anniston and Amanda (Jeremie) Smith, of Glencoe; six grandchildren, Macy Mitchell, Brayden Pappa, Wesley Wheeler, Elise Wheeler, Bailey Smith, and Jaxon Wheeler; his brother, Gary (Carol) Wheeler, of Milton, Florida; his sister, Pam (Glenn) Burdette, of Lakeland, Florida; his son-in-law, Greg Mitchell, of Oxford, and several nieces and nephews. Pallbearers will be Keith Parris, Devin Womack, Ryan Parris, Jason Wheeler, Ricky Bryant and Mike Davis Mr. Wheeler was retired from the Anniston Army Depot. He served his country during the Vietnam War Era in the U.S. Army and then served in the Florida Army National Guard. Mr. Wheeler loved Alabama football and watching his westerns. He also loved to sing, tell stories, make people laugh and spend time with his family. Mr. Wheeler's sense of humor and loving spirit will be greatly missed. He was preceded in death by his parents, Roy Wheeler and Betty Parris Wheeler, and his daughter, Christi Mitchell.
