Funeral services for Mr. Samuel Gray Hurst, 86, will be Thursday, January 10, 2019 at 2 p.m. at Chapel Hill Funeral Home with Rev. Frank Haynie officiating with burial to follow at Anniston Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends from 11:30 until service time at the funeral home. Mr. Hurst passed on Monday, January 8, 2019 at his home. Mr. Hurst is survived by his wife of 68 years, Vivian L. Hurst; daughter, Joyce A. (Joe) Prickett; son, Wayne (Tawana) Hurst; grandchildren, Mandy (RC) Brown, Amber (Dustin) Russell, Randy (Emily) Prickett, and Whitney (Nick) Hurst; great-grandchildren, Jessica Martin, Reagan Russell, Cohen Russell, Tenley Hubbard, Josie Clair Prickett, and Austin Kaylor; and several nieces and nephews. Pallbearers will be Wayne Hurst, Dustin Russell, Joe Prickett, Randy Prickett, Jerre Johnson, Dennis Johnson, and Tim Hurst. Honorary pallbearers will be Keith Finley and the Men's II Bible Study Class @ Mt. Zion Baptist Church. Mr. Hurst was proceeded in death by mother, Odessa Hurst; father, Otha Hurst; sister, Catherine Johnson; and brother, Davis Hurst. Mr. Hurst was a native and lifelong resident of Calhoun County, a member of Mt. Zion Baptist Church and attended Alexandria High School. He was retired from Barber's Diary. Mr. Hurst was the Owner and operator of Hurst Diary Farm for many years. He was awarded the Farm Family of the Year, and was a member of the Alexandria Volunteer Fire Department in the 70's.
