Service for Samuel M. Arrington, 91, will be today at 3 p.m. at Thompson Funeral Home with the Rev. Tom Moye officiating. Burial with masonic rites will follow at Highland Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home one hour prior to services. Mr. Arrington passed away Saturday, July 11, 2015, at Piedmont Health Care Center. Survivors include his son, the Rev. Eric M. Arrington and his wife, Diane, of Piedmont; one granddaughter, Erica Lemons and her husband, Jonathan, of Rock Run; two great-grandchildren, Brody Lemons and Tyson Lemons, both of Rock Run; one brother, Thomas H. Weems, of Mesquite, Texas; a sister-in-law, Trillis Weems, of Huntsville and several nieces and nephews. Pallbearers will be Tim Cowan, Jonathan Lemons, Brian Pike, Steven Weems, Phillip Hamrick, Scott Stephens and Randy Steed. Honorary Pallbearers will be members of Lozahatchee Masonic Lodge #97 F&AM. Mr. Arrington was a native and life long resident of Piedmont and was a member of the Piedmont High School Class of 1941. He was a U.S.Navy WWII veteran and was the recipient of two bronze stars and a commendation for bravery from the Secretary of the Navy. He was a long time member of the First United Methodist Church of Piedmont where he had served on numerous boards and committees and had been a member of Lozahatchee Masonic Lodge #97 F&AM since 1946 and was a past master of the lodge. He retired from the Standard Coosa Thatcher Company with over 30 years service. Mr. Arrington was preceded in death by his wife, Olene A. Arrington; a grandson, Jared Arrington; his father, Samuel P. Arrington; his dad, John B. Weems; his mother, Pluma Norton Weems; two brothers, John B. Weems Jr. and Stanley N. Weems and a sister, Juanita Hinton.
