Sarah Margene Williams, 87, passed away August 16, 2017 at Jacksonville Health Care and Rehabilitation. Funeral service will be held Saturday, August 19, 2017 at 11 a.m. at The First Baptist Church of Jacksonville. The Reverend Bob Ford, Chaplain Jim Wilson, and son, Chaplain Joel Williams will officiate. Fred and Phyllis Taylor will provide the music. Burial will be in the Jacksonville City Cemetery. Her family will receive friends Saturday at the church from 10 a.m. until service time. Sarah was a loving wife and mother. She was born at home in Sylacauga and was a graduate of Sylacauga High School. She and her husband, James Williams, were married on Christmas Eve 1946 at her aunt's home in Sylacauga. She traveled the world for 22 years as the wife of an Air Force Sergeant, living Japan, Germany and numerous assignments in the Continental United States before settling in Jacksonville in 1969. She was a homemaker and when her children were grown, worked at Kitchin's in Jacksonville for many years. Sarah was deeply loved by her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. As her health declined, she was lovingly cared for by her husband of more than 70 years. She was a long-time member of the First Baptist Church of Jacksonville and the Circle of Faith Sunday School Class. Sarah is preceded in death by her parents, Archie Heywood and Elberta Cleghorn McNeill; siblings, Frances Ledbetter (Jack), Eunice McNair (Mac) and James McNeill. Sarah is survived by her husband, Dr. James Melford Williams; children, James Melford Williams Jr. (Barbara), Rebecca Gail Williams Blair (F. Randall), Joan Teresa Williams Lancaster (Kevin) and Joel Christopher Williams (Jan); grandchildren, Kerri Lynn Williams Porter (Curt), Jeffrey Heywood Williams (Ashley), Christopher James Williams, Malinda Gail Blair O'Leary (Paul), Daniel Allen Blair (Kimberly), Max Samuel Lancaster, Sarah Helen Lancaster, Jack Christopher Williams (Rachel) and Julianna Williams Callaway (Justin); great-grandchildren, Mackenzie Poland, Taylor Poland, Kennedy Williams, Kamdyn Williams, Kinsley Williams, Sophia O'Leary, Sylvia O'Leary, Hazel Blair, Jaycee Callaway, Jarrett Callaway and Carson Williams; brother, William McNeill; numerous nieces and nephews. Pallbearers are Dan McNair, Jeffrey Williams, CJ Williams, Daniel Blair, Max Lancaster and Jack Williams. Honorary pallbearers are The Faith Sunday School Class and The Friendship Class of First Baptist Church of Jacksonville, Jim Roberts, Mike Nelson, Ollie Noles, Randall Blair, Kevin Lancaster and Paul O'Leary.
