Shirley Fagan Hobbs Young, 80, slipped softly from her earthly home into the loving arms of Jesus on Monday, April 27, 2015. Mrs. Young was a lifelong resident of Calhoun County and called Weaver her home most of her life. She was christened at Weaver First United Methodist Church where she remained an active member until her death. The ladies in her Ruth Bible Class were her companions and sisters-in-Christ, whom she loved dearly. Mrs. Young was a fabulous cook and gardener, a former member of the "Red Hat Society" and served as a volunteer for charitable and civic organizations that were dear to her heart. She will most be remembered for her devotion to the Lord, her sense of humor and her optimistic strength through adversity. Mrs. Young was preceded in death by husbands, James M. Hobbs of 40 years and Jack L. Young of seven years. Survivors include her daughters, Elizabeth Hobbs Robinson (Alan) of Anniston, Bonnie Hobbs Wiseman (Bill), of Greenville, South Carolina and a son, James Hobbs Jr. (Dawn), of Anniston. Her grandchildren brought her much joy, Paige Robinson, Andrew Robinson (Christina), Katie Wiseman, Brian Wiseman, James Hobbs III and Austin Hobbs. She had one great-grandchild, Colton Robinson. She also leaves behind beloved siblings, Linda F. Morris (Larry) and Garry Fagan (Annette). The family will receive friends this evening from 6 until 8 p.m. at the funeral home. A service celebrating her life will be Thursday at 11 a.m. at Anniston Memorial Funeral Home with the Rev. Matt Headley officiating. Private burial will be in Anniston Memorial Gardens. The gentlemen of her family will serve as pallbearers, Alan Robinson, Bill Wiseman, Andrew Robinson, Brian Wiseman, James Hobbs III and Austin Hobbs. In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate donations being made in her memory to Weaver First United Methodist Church for building restoration. The family wishes to express gratitude to Dr. Almena Free for her loving and kind care and for going above and beyond the call. We thank her sincerely.
