Mr. Silas Phillip Brown Jr., 82, passed away September 9, 2014. Mr. Brown was born July 29, 1932 in Oxford to the late Silas Phillip Brown Sr. and Bernice Lillie Whitt. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Gladys Gibson Brown; infant sister, Caroline Brown and son, Robert Wilson. Mr. Brown was retired from the United States Air Force, from which he served in the Korean War. He was a member of Buchanan First Baptist Church and the Free & Accepted Masonic Lodge #126. He loved to garden, but most of all he loved his whole family. He is survived by his wife, Ethel Rhodes Brown; daughters and son-in-law, Jenny Wilson, of Lake Charles, La., and Debra and Thomas Hemmings, of Roanoke; sons and daughters-in-law, Lester and Sylvia Scott, of Buchanan, James "Buddy" Brown, MD and Linda Brown, of Panama City, Fla., Joe and Kim Brown, of Lagrange, Ga. and Yvonne Wilson of Slab Fork, W.Va.; sister and brother-in-law, Patricia and Richard Smith, of Fruithurst; brothers and sisters-in-law, Ralph and Eunice Brown, of Tallapoosa, Billy and Carol Brown, of Buchanan, Winford and Myrtice Brown, William and Sandra Brown and Gene and Martha Brown, of Muscadine; grandchildren, Robert, Frank and Beverly Wilson, Dawn, Todd and Nikki Scott, Melanie and Cheri Brown, Paul, Matt and Jesse Turley and Joseph and Jessica Brown; and 24 great-grandchildren. Funeral service were held September 12, 2014 at 11 a.m. from Beulah Baptist Church with Dr. James "Buddy" Brown, Matt Turley, Dr. Allen Wilburn, the Rev. Bill Brown and Dr. Roland P. Brown officiating. Music was provided by the Bill Brown Family. Pallbearers serving were Paul, Matt and Jesse Turley, Joseph Brown, Todd Scott, Blake Lands, Kyle Brown and Whitt Brown. Honorary pallbearers serving were Patricia Smith and Winford, Ralph, William, Gene and Billy Brown. Interment followed in Beulah Baptist Church Cemetery with Haralson County Veterans Association providing full military honors.
