A funeral service for Rev. Dr. Stan Broom, 63, will be held Sunday, November 2, 2014, at 2 p.m. at Angel Grove Baptist Church in Jacksonville with the Rev. Dr. Roy Cordle, the Rev. Dr. Steve Sullivan and the Rev. Eugene Burgess officiating. Burial will follow in Seven Springs Cemetery with K. L. Brown Funeral Home and Cremation Center in Jacksonville directing services. The family will receive friends at the church on Saturday, Nov. 1, 2014, from 1 p.m. until 4 p.m. and for one hour prior to service. Dr. Broom died Tuesday, October 28, 2014, at his residence. He is survived by his wife of 42 years, Miriam Howell Broom, of Alexandria; two daughters, Shelly Broom, of Alexandria and Lindsay Broom, of Jacksonville; grandsons, Cody Fulmer, of Oxford and Grayson and Reed Fulmer, both of Pleasant Valley; his parents, Robert and Louise Broom, of Wellborn; a sister, Janet Broom Whitman and her husband, Terry, of Oxford; three brothers, Ronald Broom and his wife, Phyllis, of Wellborn, Robbie Broom and his wife, Jeannie of Wetumpka and Paul Broom and his wife, Kathy, of Wellborn; numerous nieces, nephews as well as great-nieces and great-nephews. Pallbearers will be Deacons of Angel Grove Baptist Church. Ushers will be the Youth At Angel Grove. Honorary pallbearers will be past and present students of Covington Theological Seminary, Northeast Extension. Dr. Broom was a 1970 graduate of Wellborn High School, Gadsden State Community College, Jacksonville State University and Covington Theological Seminary - N.E. Extension. He has been in the ministry for 33 years and was an avid Alabama football fan. He was Dean of Covington Theological Seminary, Northeast Alabama Extension. He served 6 years as a member of Gadsden City School Board of Education; two years as President and two years as Vice President. Dr. Broom served with his wife, Miriam, as Director of Marriage Enrichment for Etowah County Baptist Association. He was currently serving as pastor at Angel Grove Baptist Church. Dr. Broom was preceded in death by two infant daughters.
