Funeral service for Captain Steve Palmer, 60, will be Wednesday, July 26, 2017, 1 p.m. at First Baptist Church Oxford. Dr. C.O. Grinstead and the Rev. Chris Spurlin will be officiating. Burial will follow in the Dogwood Trails Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends on Wednesday from 11 a.m. until service time at the church. Captain Palmer passed away on Saturday at UAB Hospital. Survivors include his wife of 34 years, Cindy Palmer; son, Jared Palmer (Miranda); grandsons, Jackson Palmer, Jaylon Gill; mother, Mary Palmer; brother, Stanley Palmer (Lucretia); sisters, Sandi Miller (John), Sherry Jones (Stan), Susie Palmer; sister-in-law, Debbie Sanders; brothers-in-law, Jim Carwile (Lori), Jake Young (Tammy), Matthew Young (Jessica), and numerous nieces and nephews. Pallbearers will be The Oxford Police Department Honor Guard. Honorary pallbearers will be the Oxford Police Department. Captain Palmer served his community for over 38 years. He rose through the ranks at Oxford Police Department to Captain. Steve was the division commander of the uniform division. He was an aviation enthusiast and loved his family.
