Mrs. Sue Cross Savage, 80, passed away on Tuesday, November 10, 2015, after a period of declining health. Mrs. Savage passed peacefully, surrounded by family and friends, at home in Atlanta where she lived for several years with her daughter, son-in-law and two grandchildren. Sue Louis Cross was born in Albany, Ga. on August 1, 1935. She is preceded in death by her parents, Clarence Lewis Cross and Jennie Belle Dickson Cross and her husband, Jerry Lewis Savage. Sue was a graduate of Huntingdon College's school of music, specializing in organ. She was quite an accomplished pianist and organist, even in high school. Sue was the organist at Covenant Presbyterian Church in Albany, Ga. in the late 1950's where she met her future husband. She and Jerry married on June 11, 1960 and enjoyed 48 happy years of marriage. Sue was an active member of First Baptist Church of Griffin where she attended the Morgan Sunday School Class. She had a passion for the church's Clothes Closet ministry, which helps clothe members of the community who are in need. Sue enjoyed not only donating clothing to the Clothes Closet, but also spending time in fellowship with whoever might be there. Also through First Baptist, Sue was involved with the Griffin School for the Arts, which introduces students to the arts and encourages artistic self-expression through their God-given talents. Sue was passionate about the arts and championed many artistic causes in the Griffin community. She was involved in the Griffin Music Club, Griffin Area Concert Association, Camelot Theater, Griffin Area Arts Alliance and Main Street Players, among many others. Due to their love of and involvement in the community, April 16, 2009 was proclaimed Jerry and Sue Savage Day by the Griffin City Commissioners. Survivors include daughters, Cynthia Cross Savage and Sharon Savage Deaton and her husband, Steven Graham Deaton; two beloved grandchildren, Lila Victoria Deaton and Graham Lewis Deaton, who adored their "Sue Sue"; brother, Joe Cross; sister, Lil Cross and many nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews.
