A Funeral Mass for Mrs. Susan Cheyne Wallis, 65, of Anniston, will be at noon on Wednesday, June 25, 2014, at Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church with the Reverend Bryan Lowe officiating. Burial will follow at Anniston Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends on Wednesday from 10:30 a.m. until the service hour at the church. Mrs. Wallis passed away on Saturday, June 21, 2014, at Noland Hospital of Anniston. Mrs. Wallis was a lifelong member of Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church. At the church, she served on the Eucharistic Ministry, the Hospital Ministry, the Ladies Guild, and volunteered at Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic School. Mrs. Wallis was an educator with the Calhoun County Board of Education for 25 years and was a member of Delta Kappa Gamma where she had also served a term as president. Mrs. Wallis is preceded in death by her first husband, Michael Howard; her parents, D.S. and Rita Francis Cheyne; and her grandparents, James Garrick and Dorothy S. Cheyne and Charles R. and Francis Hendrey. Mrs. Wallis is survived by her husband, Jim Wallis, of Anniston; her step daughters, Angie Wallis, of North Liberty, Iowa and Sharon Warth, of Keokuk, Iowa; her brothers, Donald R. Cheyne and his wife, Judy, of Ellijay, Ga., Rick Cheyne and his wife, Mindy, of Jacksonville, Chris Cheyne, of Anniston, and James Cheyne and his wife Robin, of LaGrange, Ga.; nieces and nephews, Matthew Garrett, Jody Stephens, Garrick Cheyne, Mollyanne Gurley, Steven Cheyne, Craig Cheyne, Jennifer Chastain, Raymond Cheyne, Nancy J. Carter, and Donald P. Cheyne. Pallbearers will be the Knights of Columbus. The family requests memorial contributions be made to the Lupus Foundation of America, 2000 L Street, N.W., Suite 410, Washington, DC 20036-4916 (www.lupus.org) or to the Building Fund at Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church, 16 Morton Road, Anniston, AL 36205.
