The funeral service for Mr. Ted H. Hughes, 87, will be at 11 a.m. on Saturday, January 28, 2017, at DeArmanville United Methodist Church with the Rev. Harry Skaggs officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church. Mr. Hughes passed away on January 26, 2017 at Noland Hospital of Anniston. Mr. Hughes was born in Calhoun County and graduated from Oxford High School where he and his twin brother, Ned, excelled in basketball. He worked for Lee Brass for a time and then went to work for Southern Natural Gas Company and retired after a 42 year career in 1992. He was a member of DeArmanville United Methodist Church for many years and was also a member of Asbury United Methodist Church. He loved spending time on his farm, working in his garden and spending time with his grandchildren. He will be remembered as a loving husband, father, grandfather and brother. Mr. Hughes is preceded in death by his wife, Lois "Ducky" Hughes; his parents, Horace and Nellie Fowler Hughes and a brother, James Earl Hughes. He is survived by his sons, Philip Hughes and his wife, Diane, and Bruce Hughes and his wife, Lee; grandchildren, Michele Williams, Blake Hughes, Laura Lee Baldwin and Madeline Hughes; great-granddaughters, Gracie and Natalie Williams; brothers, Ned Hughes and his wife, Elizabeth and Dewey Hughes and his wife, Jane; numerous nieces and nephews. Pallbearers will be Gray Hughes, Ray Hughes, Bryan Hughes, Derek Hughes, Robert Costanza and Billy Bowden. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made to DeArmanville United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 234, DeArmanville, AL 36257.
