Funeral service for COL. (Ret.) Therman R. Greene will be Tuesday, September 5, 2017, 2:30 p.m. in the chapel of Miller Funeral Home. The Rev. Roy Cordle and the Rev. Chris Spurlin will be officiating. Burial will follow in the Forestlawn Gardens. The family will receive friends on Tuesday from 12 p.m. until service time at the funeral home. COL. (Ret) Therman R. Greene was called home on August 31, 2017. COL. (Ret.) Greene is survived by his son, Kevin Greene and wife, Tara; daughter-in-law, Vicky Greene; daughter, Karen Cobb and her husband, Michael; daughter, Kristin Cosson; grandchildren, Jonathon Greene, Nicholas Greene (Alexandra), Collin Searcy, Callye Cobb, Gavin Greene, Gabrielle Greene and Cianna Cosson; great-granddaughter, Sophie B. Green. He is also survived by his special friend and companion, Pat Boozer. Pallbearers will be Nicholas Greene, Collin Searcy, Gavin Greene, Mark Ingram, Doug Pettus and Samuel Howell. Honorary Pallbearers will be Oxford High School Class of 1955. He was preceded in death by his wife, Patricia Greene; son, Keith Greene, and his grandson, Christopher Searcy. COL. (Ret.) Greene dedicated 30 years of his life serving our country in the United States Army retiring as a well decorated Colonel in 1986. He received the following prestigious awards during his time of service, The Legion of Merit, Bronze Star with two oak leaf clusters; Meritorious Service Medal with three oak leaf clusters; The National Defense Service Medal with oak leaf cluster; Vietnam Service Ribbon; Overseas Service Ribbon with three oak leaf clusters; Republic of Vietnam Cross of Gallantry with Palm. He held degrees from Oxford High School, Jacksonville State University and Boston University. He graduated Jacksonville State University Army ROTC in 1959 and was Commissioned as a 2nd Leut. into Infantry. He attended Infantry Officet Basic Course, Airborne School and Jumpmaster, Ranger School, Ordnance Advance course and Command General Staff College. Since his retirement, has continued dedicating his life to serving others and his community. He was a Charter Member of the Jacksonville State University Army ROTC Alumni Chapter and Board of Directors member since 1996. He has been past President and was currently serving as the Chairman of the ROTC Scholarship Committee. He was also a Charter Member of the Oxford Education Foundation serving from 2008 - 2014. Although retired from the foundation, he has continued his service in fundraising to support the Oxford City School System. He served with the Retired Seniors Volunteer Program and the United Way for 30 plus years providing free income tax services. He was a member of the Elks Lodge, Masonic Lodge, Shriners International and the Retired Military Officers Association of America. He also served as a member of the Oxford Quarterback Club. He was the founder of the Tuesday Night Dinner Group. He was very instrumental in the creation of Freedom Park at Oxford Lake. He spent many years participating in the Oxford Senior Citizens games and Masters games competing in Softball and Volleyball.
