Funeral service for Travis L. Atkison Sr., 69, will be Saturday at 1 p.m. at Saks Baptist Church with the Rev. Daniel Harper officiating. Entombment will follow in Anniston Memorial Gardens Mausoleum. The family will receive friends one hour prior to service time. Mr. Atkison died Thursday at Regional Medical Center. Survivors include his wife of 47 years, Phyllis Atkison; his son, Travis Atkison Jr. and his wife, Rebekah, of Ruston, La.; his mother, Edna Atkison, of Rome, Ga.; his brother, Richard Atkison and his wife, Pearl, of Valdosta, Ga.; his sister, Laverne Naugher and her husband, Guy, of Rome, Ga.; grandchildren, Anthony Atkison and Zachary Atkison; many nieces and nephew. He was preceded in death by his father, Rev. Orbie H. Atkison Sr.; brothers, Orbie H. Atkison Jr. and Carl Atkison. Honorary pallbearers will be Anthony Atkison and Zachary Atkison. Pallbearers will be Tommy Monroe, Ronald Harper, Jim Payne, Wayne Rhodes, Bobby Chandler and George Walker. Mr. Atkison was born in Anniston and was a longtime resident of Saks. He graduated from Woodland High School in Randolph County and loved traveling to the mountains and the beach. He was an avid racecar driver and a huge NASCAR and Alabama football fan throughout his life. He was a member of Saks Baptist Church and loved his church and church family. He loved his family with all his heart and his grandchildren were his pride and joy and playing baseball with them was his favorite thing to do. He was employed at Anniston Army Depot for over 30 years where he was known as "4-Speed". In lieu of flowers please make donations in his name to the .
