Mr. Troy (Butch) Dwayne Shields, 56, passed away in the early morning hours of January 9, 2016 at Gadsden Regional Medical Center. Surrounded by those whom he loved so dearly, Mr. Shields passed away from a sudden illness. Mr. Shields was a veteran of The United States Air Force. After serving at home and abroad, he returned home to Alabama from Okinawa, Japan. In the foothills he called home, Mr. Shields would raise a loving family to whom he dedicated himself with joy, understanding and admiration without end. A memorial service is to be held in his honor today, January 12, 2016, at 4 p.m. in the care of Thompson Funeral Home in Piedmont. The family will receive friends of the deceased one hour prior to services. Mr. Shields is survived by his loving wife of 35 years, Lisa Gail Shields; two children, Cassie Shields and Zack Shields, both of Piedmont; two grandchildren, Madison Gabrielle Clopton and Drew Nowland; his mother, Helen Jahn (Wally), of Piedmont; a sister, Fran McFry (Paul), of Piedmont; several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father, Troy Shields Jr.; a brother, Joey Shields; and his grandparents, R.T.
