he funeral service for Troy C. Beckman, 71, will be today at 11 a.m. at Union "D" Baptist Church with Bro. Eugene Robinson and Bro. Jerry Patterson officiating. Burial, with military honors, will follow in the adjoining cemetery. Mr. Beckman passed away Tuesday, February 07, 2017 at the William F. Green Veterans Home in Bay Minette. He was a native of Cullman, a former resident of Oxford and Montgomery and had lived in Clay County for the past three years. Mr. Beckman enlisted in the U. S. Navy at a young age and served for 23 years before retiring as a Chief Petty Officer in 1989. His military awards and decorations include the Navy Commendation Medal, Navy Achievement Medal, Good Conduct Medal (four awards), Meritorious Unit Commendation, National Defense Service Medal, Navy Expeditionary Medal and Sea Service Deployment Ribbon (three awards). Mr. Beckman is survived by his wife of eighteen years, Mary E. Morrow Beckman, of Delta; one daughter, Mary Hughes (Jesse), of Florida; two sons, Chris Bailey (Trisha), of Georgia and James Beckman, of Alabama; three step-children, Debra, Rudy and David; six sisters, Elouise Veigl, of Ohio, Margaret Cofer, of Cullman, Mahaley Lake, of Burtchville, Dianne Bottoms, of Oxford, Linda Gortney, of Oxford and Patricia Kent (Joe), of Cullman; two brothers, Virgil Beckman, of Highland Home and Kenneth Beckman (Linda), of Cullman and six grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph Johnny Beckman and Creacy Gable Beckman; five sisters and six brothers. Pallbearers will be Jesse Hughes, Leon Morrow, Sam Morrow, Nelson Morrow, Michael Johnson and Ken Bell. The family will receive friends today from 10 a.m. until service time at Union "D" Baptist Church.
