Mount Dora, FL - Vastie D. Batson, 101, of Mount Dora, Fla., passed away Friday, November 15, 2013. She was born in Cleburne County and had been a resident of this area for many years coming from White Plains. Mrs. Batson was a homemaker and a member of the Methodist faith, being a member of the First United Methodist Church of both Mount Dora and White Plains. She was active in the handbell choir at Waterman Village in Mount Dora and, quoting her family, was a "excellent homemaker and legendary cook". Survivors include her son, Gene, of Mount Dora, Fla.; two granddaughters, Jennifer Batson, of Mount Dora, and Kelley Howard, of Eustis, Fla., and two great-granddaughters, Rebecca and Sarah West, both of Lake Mary, Florida. Friends may call today, November 18, 2013, from 5 until 6 p.m. at the Allen J. Harden Funeral Home, 1800 North Donnelly Street, Mount Dora, Florida. Services will follow at 6 p.m. at the funeral home with the Dr. Alan Jones officiating. Entombment will take place 11 a.m. Thursday, November 21, 2013, in the Forest Lawn Gardens Mausoleum, Anniston.
