Funeral service for Mrs. Virginia Adams, 87, will be held on Wednesday, July 20, 2016, at 10 a.m., in the chapel of Miller Funeral Home. Pastor Stan Albright will be officiating. Mrs. Adams passed away on July 17, 2016. She is survived by her son, Tom Adams; daughters, Sherry Miller and Jane Pentecost; grandchildren, Ross Miller, Brandi Terkeurst, Lee Pentecost (Katie), Erin Steed (Dustin); great-grandchildren, Bailey Terkeurst and Weston Pentecost; brother, Howard Thomas (Barbara); sister, Ruby Clark (William); sisters-in-law, Maxine Thomas and Betty Thomas, and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and extended family members. She is preceded in death by her husband of 51 years, and former mayor, Bester A. Adams Jr.; parents, Claude and Izora Thomas; brothers, Norman Miller (Hazel), Claude Thomas Jr., Curtis Thomas, and son-in-law, Ross Miller. Pallbearers will be Dennis Clark, David Clark, Tim Thomas, Tracy Thomas, Keith Thomas, Larry Miller, Bryan Parker and Jeanie Johnson. All other nephews will serve as Honorary Pallbearers. Virginia Thomas Adams was born in Munford, in Talladega County in 1928. She graduated from Munford High School and studied Home Economics at Jacksonville State University. She married Bester A. Adams Jr. in 1947 and has lived in Oxford ever since. She has been a member of First Baptist Church of Oxford for 57 years. She retired from the State Unemployment Office in 1997 after 17 years of service. She loved gardening, walking, attending Curves Gym, and doing Meals on Wheels where she received a Presidential Volunteer Service Award. One of her most favorite things, was spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was one of the best cooks around. Mrs. Adams enjoyed Alabama football and Atlanta Braves baseball. The family would like to extend a special thank you to her loving caregiver, Melisa Rhoden, and to Gentiva Hospice.
