Service for Wayne Levert Collier, 90, will be Sunday, October 11, 2015, at 2 p.m. at Thompson Funeral Home with the Rev. Corey Burns officiating. Burial will follow at Shady Grove Cemetery. The family will receive friends Sunday from 12 - 2 p.m. at the funeral home. Mr. Collier passed away Thursday, October 8, 2015, at Gadsden Regional Medical Center. Survivors include his wife of 62 years, Frances Imogene Collier; two daughters, Karen Collier Fry (Leroy "Tom") and Beverly Dempsey (Randy), all of Piedmont; 2 sons, Bruce Collier (Delores) and Steven Collier (Dana), all of Piedmont; five grandchildren, Linda Paradis (Andrew), Adam Collier, Martin Collier, Brian Dempsey (Brianna) and Michael Cole Collier; one great-grandchild, Arlo Paradis; one daughter-in-law, Anita Collier and one sister, Juanette Stephens, of Jacksonville. Pallbearers will be family and friends. Honorary Pallbearers will be Lou Lewis and Howard Goodwin. Mr. Collier was a lifelong resident of Piedmont and a graduate of Auburn University. He was a medic on the hospital ship Chataeu Thierry during WWII. He owned and operated Collier Construction Company. He was an avid outdoorsman, enjoyed working with cattle and was devoted to his children and grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his son, Michael Wayne Collier.
