The funeral service for Mr. Wilburn E. Smallwood, 91, of Anniston, will be at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, January 6, 2015, at K.L. Brown Memory Chapel in Golden Springs. Burial will follow at Anniston Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends on Monday evening from 5 - 8 p.m. at the funeral home. Mr. Smallwood passed away on January 2, 2015 at St. Vincent's St. Clair. Mr. Smallwood served his country during World War II in the United States Army. He was in the 36th Infantry and participated in D-Day. He was awarded the World War II Victory Medal, the American Service Medal, the European African Middle Eastern Service Medal with 3 Bronze Stars, the Army Good Conduct Medal, and the Purple Heart. He was a member of the Anniston Runner's Club and loved the competition. He had been awarded over 250 trophies. He was listed as the Fastest Man in Alabama for his age group. In 2014, he was the oldest finisher of the Woodstock 5k. He had retired after many years as an electrician at the Anniston Army Depot. He enjoyed fishing, gardening, and the Smoky Mountains. He was a member of Meadowbrook Baptist Church in Oxford. Mr. Smallwood is preceded in death by his wife of 67 years, Wyndall R. Bobo Smallwood; a beloved grandson, Hank Baker and several sisters and brothers. Mr. Smallwood is survived by his daughter, Carolyn Baker, of Oxford; his sons, Woody Smallwood and his wife, Amanda, of Roswell, Ga. and Bo Smallwood and his wife, Karen, of Jacksonville; sisters, Clara Mae Bonner, of Robertsdale, Kathleen Deas, of Vernon and Mary E. Glass, of Duncanville; a brother, Art Smallwood of Duncanville, Ala.; grandchildren, Shaye Reynolds and her husband, Mike, Joshua Smallwood and his wife, Angelina, Sallie Smallwood, Amanda Grant and her husband, Rob, and Ashlee Bertrand and her husband, John; great-grandchildren, Jolie Smallwood, Jacob Smallwood, Jonas Smallwood, Brookslee Reynolds, Barrett Reynolds, Ethan Grant, Reese Grant and Finn Bertrand and numerous nieces and nephews.
