Funeral service for Mr. William A. "Billy" Ferguson, 85, will be held on Friday, February 9, 2018 at 1:00 p.m. at Union United Methodist Church in Wellington. The family will receive friends at the church from 11 a.m.-1 p.m. prior to the service. The Rev. Harry Skaggs and the Rev. Skip Snelling will be officiating. Burial will follow the service in Seven Springs Cemetery. The family requests all who attend to please dress casually. Mr. Ferguson went home to be with his Lord and Savior on Tuesday, February 6, 2018. Mr. Ferguson is survived by his wife of 65 years, Faye Bryant Ferguson; three children, Randy (Debbie) Ferguson, Bart (Robin) Ferguson and Shaun (Jeff) Winn; seven grandchildren, Shane Ferguson, Beau Winn, Teasha Davis, Sara Wheeler, Drew Ferguson, Angela Smith and Tyler Ferguson; 19 great-grandchildren, Elisha Burdett, McKenzie Davis, Lydia Ferguson, Tori Burdett, Keeley Ferguson, Gage Davis, Laney Burdett, MaKayla Ferguson, Sarah Kate Davis, Gracie Davis, Cole Wheeler, Chloe Winn, Kate Wheeler, Cory Ferguson, Brooklyn Ferguson, Aiden Christopher, Caitlyn Smith, Bryson Smith and Dawson Smith; one great-great grandchild, Lila Jane Ferguson; and one sister, Opal Scruggs. Pallbearers will be Shane Ferguson, Beau Winn, Kent Wheeler, Tyler Ferguson, Drew Ferguson, Kyle Davis, Cory Ferguson and Eddie Smith. Honorary pallbearers will be brothers-in-law, Johnny Bryant, Charles Bryant, Donald Bryant and Mickey Bryant. After graduating high school, Mr. Ferguson attended Southern Union and Snead State College where he played baseball and basketball. Mr. Ferguson was a US Army veteran and joined the armed forces in 1952 where he was stationed in Columbia, South Carolina. After serving his country in the military Mr. Ferguson went into the trucking business where he worked for Transus as a District Manager for many years. Throughout his life, sporting events were Mr. Ferguson's passion. He loved officiating sporting events on the high school and college levels. Over the course of 37 years, he was selected to officiate state finals in football and basketball. Mr. Ferguson was the Booking Agent for the East Alabama Basketball Association for many years. The highlight of his officiating career was being inducted into the 2017 Calhoun County Sports Hall of Fame. He never met a stranger and was known and loved by all. Mr. Ferguson was our loving husband, father, friend and "PAW". He was preceded in death by his parents, J.W. Ferguson and Willie Dulaney; and one brother, Wallace "Sonny" Ferguson. In lieu of flowers the family has asked that donations please be made to Union United Methodist Church, 320 Union Church Road, Wellington, AL 36279.
