Funeral service for William B. Wilkins, 97, will be 2 p.m. Monday, November 14, 2016, at Gray Brown-Service Mortuary with Burt Oelschig speaking. Burial will follow at Highland Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 1 p.m. until service time on Monday at the funeral home. Mr. Wilkins passed away Friday night at Colonel Robert L. Howard State Veterans Home. Survivors include his sister, Mary Bryant; "adopted daughter", Vickie Catlett; numerous nieces and nephews and many friends. Mr. Wilkins is preceded in death by his wife of 72 years, Eunice Wilkins; parents, William J. Wilkins and Carrie L. Browning Wilkins; siblings, J.S Wilkins, C.P. Wilkins, Julia Moon, Louise Gray and Roscoe L. Wilkins. Pallbearers will be Jack Catlett, Mike Bryant, Andy Bryant, Vann Williams, Burt Oelschig, Tommy Hebson, Sam Ledbetter and Jack Murphy. Honorary pallbearer will be William Trantham. Mr. Wilkins was a native of Alexandria; was in the Air Force and served in Germany during WW2, receiving five bronze stars and a Victory Medal and three other medals for his service to the United States. In Lieu of Flowers, memorials may be made to the Wounded Warrior Foundation in honor of Mr. Wilkins. The family would like to issue a special thanks to the Staff of Colonel Robert L.
