Oxford - Funeral services for Mr. William C. Birchfield Jr., 78, of Oxford, will be at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, December 11, 2013, at K.L. Brown Memory Chapel in Golden Springs with the Reverend Trull Hill officiating. Burial will follow at Forestlawn Gardens. The family will receive friends on Wednesday from 12:30 p.m. until the service hour at the funeral home. Mr. Birchfield passed away on December 8, 2013. Mr. Birchfield was a native of Calhoun County. He had retired after 20 years as a buyer for Sysco. He was Baptist. Mr. Birchfield will be remembered for being friendly, thoughtful, caring, generous, and for his ability to always bring a smile to your face with his comedic ways. He loved photography, painting, and music. He was an avid classic movie collector, and a persistent and effective fisherman. He married the love of his life, Agnes Bowling Birchfield, in 1953. He devoted his life to caring for his wife. His grandchildren will always remember his magic tricks and puppet shows. Mr. Birchfield was preceded in death by his wife of 60 years, Agnes Bowling Birchfield; his parents, William C. Birchfield Sr. and Daisy Alice Kidd Birchfield; and his son, Rodney Glenn Birchfield. Mr. Birchfield is survived by a son, William C. Birchfield III, of Columbus, Ga.; a sister, Ann Winship, of Gainesville, Va.; a brother, Jerry Birchfield and his wife, Jackie, of Prosperity, S.C.; six grandchildren, Jason, Chris, and Cody Birchfield, Callie Gardiner, and Brittany Birchfield; nine great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
