Funeral service for William "Charles" Strickland, 79, will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at the Oxford Church of Christ with Brad McNutt and Jason Campbell officiating. Burial will follow in Forestlawn Gardens. Mr Strickland will lie in state one hour prior to services at the church. The family will receive friends today from 4 until 8 p.m. at Miller Funeral Home and Crematory. Mr. Strickland died Friday, May 15, 2015, at his residence. Charles is survived by his wife, Phoebe Mullendore Strickland; sister, Neller R. Stephenson; sisters-in-law, Judith Suttle (Pettus) and Edith Fay Richardson (Luther); nephew, Auston Poore (Tabby); nieces, Patricia Gallager (Shawn), Mandy Rigler, Stephanie O'Bryon (Dan), Stacy Wiglesworth (Jim) and Kim Hudson; nephews Scott Richardson and Keith Hudson (Carol). Charles was the builder and a member of the Oxford Church of Christ. A longtime builder and developer of many residential neighborhoods in the Calhoun County area he had served on the Board of Directors of the Independent Bank of Oxford. He was instrumental in the organization of Rainbow Omega and also served on the Board of Directors. He was a Charter Member of the Calhoun County Home Builders Association. Charles was known for his generous heart and benevolent actions towards people. He loved the Lord and lived an exemplinary life. Pallbearers will be Louis Higgins, Dr. Vance Moore, Jack Roberts, Buddy Cramner, Lamar Harbin and Buster Hughes. Honorary pallbearers will be the Elders and Deacons of Oxford Church of Christ. Flowers will be accepted and the family request that donations be made to Rainbow Omega.
