Service for William Lloyd Jones, 87, will be today May 28, 2014, at 4 p.m. at Asberry Baptist Church with the Rev. William Cain officiating and Thompsom Funeral Home in charge. Burial will follow at Green Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the church one hour prior to services. Mr. Jones passed away Tuesday at his home. Survivors include five daughters, Karen Wright (Howard), of Jacksonville, Terri Holder (Kevin), of Jacksonville, Sandra Cantrell, of Florida, Brenda Bush (Morgan), of Huntsville and Debbie Allen (Jerry), of Jacksonville; ten grandchildren; many great-grandchildren; one brother, Samuel David "Sonny" Jones. Pallbearers will be Shilo Pinkard, Jason Pinkard, Shane Allen, Brett Allen, Greg Wall and Samuel David "Sonny" Jones. Mr. Jones was a native of Ft. Payne and had been a resident of Jacksonville since 1969. He was of the Baptist faith and served in the U.S.Navy and retired from the U.S.Air Force. He served in WWII, Korea and Vietnam. He served in the U.S.Navy Seabees and received a WWII victory medal. He was preceded in death by his wife of 59 years, Betty A. Jones.
