Mr. William Ray "Bill" Forney passed away on January 21, 2017 in the arms of his sons, Michael and David, as he lost his fight with cancer. Funeral service will be held at Morgan Funeral Chapel on Wednesday, January 25, 2017 at 2 p.m. The family will receive friends at the funeral home prior to the service from 12-2 p.m. in the chapel. Graveside service and interment following at Mt. Pisgah Baptist Church Cemetery. Morgan Funeral Chapel and Crematory directing. "Ray" or "Bill" as he was known to so many, was a longtime resident of Gadsden. Mr. Forney was a graduate of the University of Nebraska at Omaha. After graduation from OCS, his first assignment was to Vietnam. Many knew him from his days as an AG Officer and IG at Fort McClellan, where he retired. His awards include the Bronze Star Medal, Army Commendation Medal and Meritorious Service Medal (1st Oak Leaf Cluster). Most will remember him as quiet and ready to help anyone with a problem. As an avid bass fisherman, bass feared his name! Those preceding him in death include his daughter, Sabrina Haywood, and brothers, Jerry and David. Mr. Forney leaves behind wife, Sigrid Forney; children, Michael Ray (Christine) Forney, David Ray (Carla) Forney, Greg (Becky) Blair, John (Veronica) Blair, Joe (Michelle) Blair; chosen sons, Shane and Ryan Chandler; brothers, Danny (Kelly) and Rex (Kay) Forney; sisters, Judie Hall and Sue Putnam; uncle, Billy Ray (Christine) Foster; grandchildren, Alexandra, Cadence, Tyler Ray, Gabe, Rustin and Autumn, and numerous other grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Special thanks are extended to the medical personnel, neighbors, and friends that have shown such overwhelming compassion to our family in this time of need. Family and friends will serve as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be longtime friends, David (Joan) Prim.
