Funeral service for Mr. William "Bill" Tarkington, 84 of Jacksonville, will be 11 AM Monday, October 23, 2017 at KL Brown Funeral Home and Cremation Center with the Rev. Ken Phillips and Rev. Bill Caudle officiating. Burial with full military honors will follow at Greenlawn Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends on Sunday night from 5-7 PM at the funeral home and one hour prior to the service on Monday. Mr. Tarkington passed away on Tuesday, October 17, 2017 at UAB Hospital in Birmingham. He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Frances "Polly" Tarkington of Jacksonville; daughter, Kathy Steward (Jimmy) of Eufula; 2 granddaughters; 3 great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Mr. Tarkington was retired from the United State Army with 24 years of service. He was a combat veteran of Vietnam with two tours of duty. Mr. Tarkington was the recipient of numerous medals and awards including the Bronze Star. He was a member of Westside Baptist Church for 53 years. He was a well loved husband, father, uncle, and friend who will be deeply missed. Honorary pallbearers will be the deacons of Westside Baptist Church.
