Services with masonic rites for William Travis Ivey, 97, of Piedmont will be Thursday, January 11, 2018 at 7:00 p.m. at Thompson Funeral Home with the Rev. Michael Ingram officiating. Burial with military honors will be Friday at 11:00 a.m. at Highland Cemetery. The family will receive friends Thursday evening from 5:00 - 7:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Mr. Ivey passed away Tuesday, January 09, 2018 at Piedmont Health Care Center. Survivors include his wife, Jo Ivey; two step daughters, Malinda Smith (Jerry) and Dawn Weaver (Wesley) all of Piedmont; two step grandchildren, Emily Hammett and Maggie Smith; two step great grandsons, Brentley Hammett and Eli Hammett; one niece, Cathy Young (Ron); two nephews, David Ivey (Kim) and Barry Ivey (Lora); and several great nieces and nephews. Pallbearers will be Master Masons of the Lozahatchee Masonic Lodge # 97 F & AM. Mr. Ivey was a longtime resident of Piedmont where he was a member of The First Baptist Church. He was a member of Lozahatchee Masonic Lodge # 97 F & AM where he was very active and had previously served as chaplain and was also a member of the Piedmont Lions Club. Mr. Ivey proudly served our country in the United States Army 4th Infantry Division during WWII and was in the Battle of the Bulge. He was the recipient of two purple hearts,the bronze star medal and numerous other medals. He was a teacher at the Alabama Institute for the Deaf and Blind in Talladega for 25 years. He enjoyed life and loved being around family and friends. Mr. Ivey was preceded in death by his parents, James and Roxie Ivey; brothers, Hobert Ivey and Adrin Ivey and by his first wife, Gladys Stewart Ivey. In lieu of flowers the family suggest memorial contributions be made to the D.A.V., 411 North Center Avenue, Piedmont, AL 36272.
