Funeral service for Mr. William C. McPherson, 97, will be today, July 26, 2014, at 1 p.m. at the K.L. Brown Funeral Home and Cremation Center Chapel, with the Rev. Dr. Donnie Machen officiating. The family will receive friends at the funeral home one hour prior to the service today. Burial will be in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens. Mr. McPherson passed away on Thursday, July 24, 2014, while residing at Autumn Cove Retirement Community in Anniston. He is survived by two sons, David (Angie) McPherson, of Anniston and William C. McPherson Jr., of Dadeville; three step-daughters, Dianne (Merlis) Boozer, of Jacksonville, Donna (John) Mentel, of Ponte Vedra Beach, Fla. and Denise (Ken) Kenney, of Huntsville; grandchildren include, Emily (Chase) Thomas, of Anniston and Holly (Ben) Dykes, of Dothan; one great-granddaughter, Anne Marie Harris, of Anniston and numerous nieces, nephews and step-grandchildren. Pallbearers will be family members and friends. Mr. McPherson was born in 1917 in Mayfield, Ky. and was the younger of the two sons of G.O. and Odessa McPherson. He retired from the Postal Service as Superintendant of Mail in Columbus, Miss. in 1976 with over 30 years' service, much of which was spent in Mobile. Mr. McPherson was a WWII Army Veteran who spent approximately two years overseas in Europe while serving as the First Sergeant in the 74th General Hospital. After retiring from the Postal Service, Mr. McPherson and his wife Geraldine relocated to her hometown of Summerdale, Ala. where he served two terms as town Mayor and was also the owner of The Heart of Baldwin Real Estate Agency. He and Geraldine retired for the final time in the early 1990's and relocated to Jacksonville to live closer to family. Mr. McPherson was a lifetime member of both the Fraternal Order of the Masons and The American Legion. He was also a member of the VFW. Mr. McPherson was preceded in death by his wife of more than 50 years, Geraldine Resmondo McPherson; his second wife of 10 years, Mary McCrelles McPherson and his brother, J.D. (Catherine) McPherson, of Lakeland, Florida. He was an avid Auburn University and Atlanta Braves fan, a member of the First Baptist Church of Jacksonville and a patriotic citizen of our state and nation.
