Funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at First Baptist Church, Hokes Bluff, for Bettie M. Beasley. She will lie in state for one hour prior to the service. Mrs. Beasley passed away Tuesday, July 29, 2014. Pastor Eric House will officiate. Burial will follow at Hokes Bluff Cemetery. Collier-Butler Funeral and Cremation Services is directing. Mrs. Beasley was born on June 28, 1936, in Blount County, Ala. She was a 1954 graduate of Susan Moore High School and attended Auburn University and was a graduate of Jacksonville State University. She earned graduate degrees from the University of Alabama. She taught at Hokes Bluff and was a Home Economics teacher at Weaver High School and Calhoun County Area Vocational Center. She was a member of the First Baptist Church, of Hokes Bluff, where she had served as a Sunday School teacher and was a member of the Fidelis Sunday School Class. She was Adviser for the Future Homemakers of America chapter at Weaver and Calhoun County AVC and a long-time member of Delta Kappa Gamma, AEA and NEA. She was preceded in death by her parents, Leon and Minnie Morris and her husband of 56 years, Jeff "JM" Beasley. She is survived by her two sons, John (Anne) Beasley, of Eufaula, and Paul Beasley, of Hokes Bluff; seven grandchildren, Holly (Chris) Mitchell, Dothan, Ashley (Britt) Washington, Eufaula, Brittany (Leland) Hill, of Oxford, Jared (Ana Lankford) Beasley, of Booneville, Mississippi, John Martin Beasley, of Eufaula, Elizabeth Anne Beasley, of Eufaula, and Jacob Beasley, of Hokes Bluff; and four great- grandchildren, Gray and Katherine Mitchell and Taylor and Emma Carson Washington; two sisters-in-law, Aileen Lavender, of Hokes Bluff, and Sue Breeden, of Decatur; and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. The family will accept flowers, or donations may be made to the First Baptist Church of Hokes Bluff. Pallbearers will be Jared Beasley, John Martin Beasley, Chris Mitchell, Britt Washington, Leland Hill, Jonathon Martin, and Randy Shuffield. The family will receive friends from 5-7 this evening at Collier-Butler Funeral Home. The family expresses sincere thanks to the wonderful caregivers from the SICU at Gadsden Regional Medical Center.
