Funeral service with military honors for Earnest Milton Cummings, 73, will be Wednesday, August 20, 2014, at 2 p.m. at Trinity Missionary Baptist Church in Piedmont with the Rev. Chuck Cummings and the Rev. Rodney Ragsdale officiating. Burial will be in West Point Cemetery in Jacksonville. The family will receive friends at the church on Wednesday from 12-2 p.m. Mr. Cummings went home to be with the Lord Saturday, August 16, 2014. He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Cheryl Cummings; two sons, Chuck (Cathy) Cummings and Russell (Jeannie) Cummings; five grandsons, Joshua (Sylvia) Cummings, Joseph Cummings, Jacob Cummings, Kyle Cummings and Michael Cummings; one great-grandson, Riley Cummings; two sisters, Elsie Vinson and Dorthy Richardson; one brother, Edward Cummings and numerous nieces and nephews. Mr. Cummings was a retired Navy Chief Petty Officer, having served twenty years including a tour in Vietnam and he later retired from Goodyear with more than twenty years. He was a member of Trinity Missionary Baptist Church and loved His Lord and church family. Pallbearers will be Joshua Cummings, Joseph Cummings, Jacob Cummings, Kyle Cummings, Michael Cummings, Riley Cummings and James Nolin. Mr. Cummings was preceded in death by his parents, Fred and Olene Cummings and a sister, Jean Blankenship. The family wishes to thank Amedisys Home Healthcare as well as the doctors and nurses of the 9th floor and ICU at NEARMC for the care provided to their loved one.
