Atlanta - Funeral services for SSG. Carmelo E. Gomez 43, formerly of Anniston, will be on Monday, March 18, 2013, at 11 a.m. at the Russell H. Williams Memorial Chapel with Bishop Micheal Truss officiating. Burial will be in Eden Hills Cemetery. Visitation will be today 12 - 6 p.m. at the chapel. Anniston Funeral Services in charge. SSG. Gomez passed on March 12, 2013 at Atlantic Medical Center. SSG. Gomez was a retired Army veteran who served his country for 22 years and 8 months. He served in Desert Storm and Operation Iraqi Freedom. His service also included deployment to Somalia and Afghanistan. Survivors include his wife, LaTonya L. Gomez; his father, Niepce Gomez, of Cartgeria, Colombia; children, Javon A. Gomez, of New Orleans, La., Jeremy J. Wynn, Carmelo E. Gomez Jr., Micheala Gomez, Taniya M. Gomez, and Alexandria M. Gomez, all of Anniston; grandson, Javontae Gomez, of New Orleans; siblings, Ezio (Linda) Gomez of Torance, Calif. and Elvira M. Gomez, of Laurel, Miss.; in-laws, Mark (Janice) Wynn, Penny (Ronald) Williams, Rosaline (Terance) Montgomery, all of Anniston; a host of other relatives and many friends.
