James Bryant Dobbs Obituary

Funeral service for James Bryant Dobbs, 90, will be at 2 p.m. on Friday, April 7, 2017, at Halls Chapel Congregational Holiness Church with the Rev. Ellis Ford and Jeanette Fisher officiating. The family will receive friends from 6-8 this evening at Gray Brown-Service. Mr. Dobbs passed away on Monday, April 3, 2017. Mr. Dobbs was born on August 4, 1926 in Cedartown, Georgia and moved to Anniston at an early age. He lived at The Robert L. Howard Veterans Home in Pell City the last 3 years. He enlisted in the Navy in 1944 and saw action in WWII as a member of the Amphibious Forces. After the war he returned to Anniston where he met his future wife, Rachel Ford, got married and started a family. James and his wife, Rachel, were married in 1948 and had enjoyed 66 years of marriage at the time of her death in 2014. He retired from Anniston Army Depot, where he was a painter, in 1987 after 30 years of service. He later worked at Noble Signs in Anniston. He was a beekeeper and at one time had over 50 hives of bees. He enjoyed working in his garden, woodworking in his work shop and loved spending time with his family. He was a longtime member of Halls Chapel Congregational Holiness Church in Weaver where he taught Sunday school and at one time he sang and played the guitar in the choir. Survivors include his son, Connie Mack Dobbs (Linda); daughter, Kelli Jo Hunter (Adam); grandchildren, Jonna (Jackie) Cheatwood, Alicia (Rob) Cofield, Kris Guthrie, and Kade Hunter; seven great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; sister, Betty Cardwell; numerous nieces and nephews.

I am so sorry for your loss. Even when our family lives a full and long life we can never prepare for their leaving. God has put eternity into our hearts and will satisfy that desire (Ecclesiastes 3:11).
